This is especially important for lightening processes, which can be more intense on locs. Coloring locs often takes longer than coloring loose natural hair because the dye needs to penetrate each loc.

Additionally, if you're aiming for a lighter shade, multiple sessions may be necessary to avoid damage from over processing.

Touch-ups depend on the color and growth rate of your locs. Typically, they're needed every 6-8 weeks for bright or bold colors. For more natural tones, touch-ups can be spaced out longer.
